One hundred years after Dadaism emerged in Switzerland on the heels of the First World War, the interdisciplinary exhibition YALLA DADA, taking place at Station Beirut until December 6, is reviving the movement’s ideas in the Arab region.
As the Middle East finds itself in the violent upheaval reminiscent of that in Europe in 1916, YALLA DADA sets out to explore whether Dadaism can have the same impact in the Middle East now as it did when it first appeared in Europe?
Initiated and curated by Swiss Lebanese Nabil Canaan, director of Station Beirut, and supported by Pro Helvetia Cairo, the month-long exhibition brings together over 20 artists from Lebanon and around the world who embody the universal, revolutionary and creative spirit of the Dada movement.
