Swiss string Quarter “Kaleidoscope” will be in Cairo to take part of the 10th edition of Cairo Jazz Festival and to join the Swiss community celebrating the Swiss National Day.
KSQ performs regularly, locally and abroad, at prestigious festivals including the Lucerne Festival Lounge, Murten Classics, Cully Jazz, Jazz Festival Willisau, Langnau Jazz Nights as well as at renowned jazz clubs such as Moods Jazz Club Zurich, BeJazz Bern, Jena Baths and the Culture Cafe of the Elbe Philharmonic Hall in Hamburg. Their repertoire consists of original compositions written by violinist Simon Heggendorn and violist David Snow.
The quartet, whose members are professionally trained in both classical and jazz, have come to define their own musical language by way of skillfully eliminating musical boundaries and constantly exploring the connective ties to other music genres such as pop and rock. Edgy grooves rise and fall between imaginative soundscapes while folkloric melodies encounter adventurously experimental improvisations.
They see themselves more as a band than as a quartet in the classical sense, taking to the stage without note stands.
In the KSQ’s atmospheric and dynamically charged live performances, spontaneity and audience proximity all come together to create a uniquely woven unit that is unanimously praised by the press time and time again.
