On February 15, Iorio and Cuomo will create a display based on a selection of photos, text excerpts and other collected materials together with a leaflet of selected translated texts from Charit Cinema and designed by them.

Starting February 21, Lorio and Cuomo will run a 3-day workshop titled “For the love of the thing – Memories of «minor» cinema in Tunisia” together with Habib Mestiri. This workshop discusses the various aesthetic and political stakes of making films as an amateur, and gives an occasion to discuss the working process related to the making of “Images Saccadées” (2012), a film by Mestiri, which retraces the amateur film movement in Tunisia and also reveals the lack of an archive of the filmic production of FTCA.

“For the love of the thing” is based on texts related to amateur film practices, especially the writing published in the Tunisian magazine Charit Cinema in the early 1970s. The magazine was published in French, from which Habib, Maria and Raphael selected and translated some of the texts into Arabic and used them as a basis for the workshop. The workshop aims to find new ways to make visible, to reconstruct and to learn from this little-known, marginalized cinema culture. The focus is not only on films (many historical films are destroyed or lost), but also on texts related to amateur film practices, including writings.

On February 20, Iorio and Cuomo will present a screening program at Cimatheque that brings together a selection of rarely seen films and videos related to the amateur cinema movement in Tunisia. The screening is made possible with the collaboration of FTCA (Tunisia).

PhotoCairo6 is a lens-based media art festival dedicated to contemporary practices in photography, video, film and their interface with other media to raise questions around the reproducible image today organized by Contemporary Image Collective (CiC) in Egypt.
