Nicolas Cantillon directing FuittFuitt workshop as part of CIFCET
Egypt
This September, Nicolas Cantillon is invited to direct a dance workshop as part of Cairo International Festival for Contemporary and Experimental Theater. The workshop “FuittFuitt Dance techniques” will be held for 4 days, starting on September 24. The workshop is directed to 16 young Egyptian dancers.
Since the creation of his company 7273, along with his partner Laurence Yadi, in 2003, Cantillion has developed a dance style that invites the body to continuously and endlessly unravel. His research is inspired by the specific Arabic music system of Maqâm. Each maqâm describes a “tonal-spatial factor” or a set of musical notes and the relationship between them. It allows the musician to play inbetween the notes and gives him the opportunity to express himself. Named Multi styles FuittFuitt by the choreographers themselves, the transfer of this technique into the body allows the movements to weave into each other in a wavy, spiraled and hypnotic dance.
The choreographers regularly give sessions and workshops in Switzerland and abroad. They are also invited to teach the Multi styles Fuittfuitt to young dancers in professional training.
