INTERFERENCE 2018 – The Darkness of the Medina, A Backdrop for Light Artists
Tunisia
Pro Helvetia Cairo is supporting INTERFERENCE 2018, which will be held in Tunisia, at the Medina de Tunis – a UNESCO World Heritage Ensemble – from September 6 to 9, 2018.
The public event is set to explore the Medina by night. The darkness of the Medina by night is a perfect backdrop for artists working with light as material, medium, or metaphor.
INTERFERENCE Tunis is an international exhibition, which is set in public spaces every year, with the main emphasis and theme of “Contemporary art in Dialogue with cultural heritage”. Drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations, interventions and performances that distinguish themselves through the use of light in many ways and perspectives, are shown in individually chosen places in the Medina of Tunis.
This month, the Medina of Tunis, will host the large-scale exhibition, inviting artists from all over the world to join and develop a site and context-specific interventions. In this framework, the curators are inviting Swiss artist Ursula Scherrer to develop a site specific artwork titled “inter-woven”.
The work of Ursula Scherrer is less about what one sees then about the feeling that it leaves behind. Her aesthetic training began with dance, transitioned to choreography and expanded to photography, video, text, mixed media.
