Devising Children’s Theatre with Teresa Rotemberg, in Cairo
Egypt
September 24, 2019 till October 4, 2019
First workshop
Teresa Rotemberg is an internationally renowned specialist in Children’s Theatre. From 24 September – 4 October, she will be leading a training intensive for experienced actors, dancers and physical theater artists with an interest in children’s theatre.
Over the course of two weeks, participants will immerse themselves in the dreams, memories and experiences of childhood. From this they will create characters, storylines, sketches and movement choreographies. The intensive will conclude with a presentation to a small group of children.
During Teresa’s visit, participants will have the opportunity to join her on field trips to meet with children in neighborhoods where later performances might occur.
From 12 – 29 November, Teresa will return to Cairo to lead a 3-week devising intensive that will result in a full children’s theatre production. Members of the performing ensemble will be selected from those who attended her initial workshop in September.

FACILITATOR
Born in Buenos Aires, Teresa Rotemberg distinguishes herself through her extremely versatile work. She regularly creates dance theatre pieces with her own Zurich based company, which she founded in 1999. Lately she has focussed on productions for children and teenagers/young adults, for which there has been international demand and a full touring calendar (Argentina, Panama, Peru, South Africa, amongst others). Furthermore, the choreographer engages in community outreach projects and creates pieces with amateurs, teenagers and children. Her repertoire also includes work as a guest choreographer with renowned dance and ballet companies (e.g. Ballett Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Ballett am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg amongst others). She can also look back over a long string of engagements as a choreographer for opera, including the State Opera House in Vienna, the Opera House Zurich, the Wagner-Festival in Budapest and, most recently, the Paris Opera House. She has also directed various theatrical productions, the first back in 2005. With «Greek», an opera score by Mark-Antony Turnage, she premiered in 2015 as director for the opera at Konzert Theater Bern. 2017 her production «Zick Zack Puff» received the prestigious Argentinian ATINA Award.
