Artists’ Talks

Egypt

December 8, 2017

Artists' Talk

From 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Pro Helvetia Cairo is thrilled to organize three artists’ talks/performances on Friday the 8th of December in Wekalet Behna in Alexandria.

The three artists Virginie Rebetez and Miriam Corette Schulte from Switzerland and Yasmine Elbaramawy from Egypt, will present and speak about their artistic experiences, their work in different cultural contexts and their upcoming projects.

Swiss visual artist Virginie Rebetez will be talking about her project “Body of Work”, her book “Out of the Blue” as well as the two projects she is currently working on in Cairo, while Swiss theater director Miriam Corette Schulte will be presenting a lecture performance about «hack-no-tech», a choreographic mnemotechnic, invented few years ago, which connects physical to memory work. The evening will be concluded with an electronic sound installation with a spoken word of Egyptian oud player Yasmine El Baramawy. The installation was recorded with poet Fork Burke during her residency in Switzerland accompanied with Oud improvisation in summer 2017.

Pro Helvetia Cairo’s Artist in Residence (AIR) program was relaunched early this year after a four-year break. The residency (3 months) provides artists with the opportunity to gain a broad insight into a different cultural environment. The aim of the residency is to find inspiration, establish networks and contemplate new projects and collaborations.

Don’t miss the opportunity to meet those phenomenal artists and know more about their interesting work.

The event is organized by Pro Helvetia Cairo in collaboration with Gudran Association for Art and Development.
