"Listen and Watch" in Amman

From 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Swiss Dance Company 7273 is participating in BIPOD –Beirut International Platform of Dance 13th Edition, Nicolas Cantillone will perform his piece “Listen and Watch” on the 17th of April 2017, in addition to a 4-day dance workshop, to continue building upon what he already started implementing in his previous workshops in Lebanon. After performing in Beirut, 7273 will travel to Amman to take part in the 9th annual Amman Contemporary Dance Festival (ACDF), from 18 – 28 April 2017.

The Lebanon Performances will be held at Citerne Beirut, Maqamat’s new ambitious project is to establish a contemporary performing arts center in Beirut, connecting the city and its artists to the international scene; while the Jordan performance will be held at the Royal Cultural Centre in Amman on the 19th of April.

Since the creation of Company 7273, Laurence Yadi and Nicolas Cantillon have developed a dance style that invites the body to continuously and endlessly unravel. Named “Multi styles FuittFuitt” by the choreographers themselves, this singular dance style is widely taught to young dancers in professional training. Laurence and Nicolas also regularly hold workshops in Switzerland and abroad. Since 2003, they have created about twenty pieces all of which they toured internationally. They have won several awards: The Swiss Prize for Dance and Choreography and the Fondation Lietchi for the Arts.

“Listen and Watch” is a piece of art that uses the concept of unraveling in its natural logic, and endlessly reinvents itself through numerous artistic encounters and residencies. It has been showcased with the Berlin experimental guitarist Steffen Basho-Junghans, the Mozambican bass player Nelton Miranda, the Muscovite sax player Roman Vselenskiy and with the Italian musician Jacques Mantica and his legendary electric guitar. “Listen and Watch” was also recreated during a residency in Cairo with well-renowned oud player Sam Shalabi. In 2015, a choir made up of 40 male singers joined Nicolas Cantillon on stage. Recently, the piece started its new metamorphosis in collaboration with the Geneva Camerata Chamber Orchestra. Other versions are to be written still, following along with wishes and propositions.

BIPOD is an annual contemporary dance platform – organized by Lebanese contemporary dance company “Maqamat.” For its 13th edition, BIPOD will showcase internationally acclaimed companies from Switzerland, Spain, The Netherlands, UK, Germany, and Sweden. Twenty-two dance performances, seven workshops, two exhibitions and more than a hundred artists, approach dream, change, and responsibility with different perspectives.

The Amman Contemporary Dance Festival (ACDF) is organized by the National Center for Culture and Art (NCCA) and is part of the MASAHAT Dance Network, which was founded in 2006 and is comprised of four organizations; Maqamat Theatre in Lebanon, Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival in Palestine, and the National Centre for Culture and Arts in Jordan.
