Soukaina Joual is a Moroccan multi-disciplinary artist, born in 1990. She graduated from the Institut National des Beaux-Arts in Tetouan in 2011. Her various works showcase an interest in how one’s body can translate and reflect various tensions, dynamics and differences. She usually focuses on the body from different perspectives: how it changes, it’s interaction with personal identity, and how it engages with ideological debates. Most of the artist’s projects translate her commitment to various forms of presence, and how she trades various shifts between visibility and invisibility, belonging and absence.
Joual participated in various exhibitions in art institutions and spaces in Morocco and abroad, including HALLE14, Art Madrid PROYECTOR’20, MASS Alexandria-Studio and Art Study Program, L’appartement22, Seoul Art Space GEUMCHEON, Le Cube Independent Art Room, AfA Masterclass Program, Space Jikka, Philomena+, La Friche la Belle de Mai, Sunday Issue Gallery, Cité internationale des Arts de Paris.
