Nourhan Maayouf is a self-taught Egyptian visual artist using the medium of photography and video. Her work focuses on experiences related to the home and the nature of relationships, inspired primarily by her home, upbringing, and personal relationships, topics such as communication and insecurity were captured in her work. Her practice relies on self portraits, performances and staging scenes. She has won many local and regional awards, most prominently is Absa bank l’Atelier grand award in South Africa, topping one hundred African artists in contemporary art. She recently had her first ever solo art exhibition in Absa bank gallery in South Africa, showcasing the first part of her long term project “the Sea is Closed”.
