Music

Martina Lussi (*1987) lives and works in Lucerne. In 2016 she received a Master of Arts in Contemporary Arts Practice at the Bern University of the Arts after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Art and Interpretation at the Hochschule Lucerne in 2011.

Following her first sound installation, which she developed during her studies together with Jonathan Ruf, she collaborated with Martina Birrer on various performances and installations under the name MARS. In 2013, the duo was granted a six-month residency in Cairo. In the time following, Lussi shifted her focus back to an independent artistic practice with occasional forays into experimental music—with the band Schwer, whose members included Jonathan Ruf, Roman Vögelin, and Christian Bammert. In 2014, Lussi’s debut EP, “Komposition O08”, was released on Präsens Editions. Besides other releases Hallow Ground published her LP „Selected Ambient“ in 2017.

Lussi has presented installations and works in various exhibitions: at the Centre PasqueArt in Biel, the Art Museum Lucerne, the Kunsthaus Langenthal to name a few.

Lussi has also performed work between the disciplines of sound art and music performance at LUFF (Lausanne Underground Filmfestival), the festival Oto Nove Swiss at London’s Cafe Oto, Rhizom Festival Zurich or Radio Picnic in Brussels. Her activity at the intersection of these fields continues to shape her work—to this day, she creates musical compositions, develops installations, and performs live in various contexts in order to continually review her material from different angles.
