Laurence Bonvin | Studio Residency

Laurence Bonvin is an artist working since many years with photography and more recently also with video. She was born in Switzerland and studied at the National School for Photography in Arles, France. Her practice, which has a strong documentary base, has been centered on the transformations of urban peripheries, natural and social landscapes, on segregation, human displacements and architecture of power. Bonvin has first realized her projects in Switzerland, before extending to Holland than Georgia, Berlin, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Abidjan, Dakar. Her photographs and videos have been extensively showcased in exhibitions as well as screened internationally in film festivals. She is currently based in Berlin and Switzerland.

Bonvin has so far realized three short documentary films : After Vegas (2013) with Stéphane Degoutin ; Sounds of Blikkiesdorp (2014) awarded with the Manuel Ortiz Foundation Film Prize (2015) and Avant l’envol / Before The Flight (2016), which premiered at the 64th Berlinale and was awarded the Swiss Camera Prize at the International Short Films Days in Winterthur (2016). She is currently working on a new video installation and a mid-length film set in Dakar.

Bonvin is Associated Professor of Photography at Ecal (University of Art and Design, Lausanne) since 2002.
