Aly Khamees, born in Cairo (Egypt). Growing up in a local area (Matareya) he enjoyed street dance, this passion led him to a general desire for dance and he has decided to become a dancer. Years later he joined a street theatre team “Hala”, and had a golden chance to have direct contact and interactions with the people in the streets. Khamees followed a contemporary dance workshop program from January 2008 to the end of 2011 curated by Laurence Rondoni in Studio Emad El Din, where he developed a high interest in physical theatre and started to dance in the works of Mohamed Shafik who introduced him to his Monkey Fish Style. Later he became familiar with the work of Ultima Vez through a personal interest that leads him to follow their work and attend, classes workshops and rehearsals with the company in Brussels.
On a regional and international level, Khamees started to take part in different productions by various choreographers such as Zosia Jo, Laila Soliman, Ruud Gielens, Sandrine Maisonnneuve and Shaymaa Shoukry. In 2018 I created my first own Work (The Absentee) that was presented in “2B continued” and “D-CAF” festivals in Egypt. At the moment Khamees is developing his own style that he calls “Bullet and knife” which is inspired by the local Egyptian street dance in dialogue with contemporary dance power movement.
