Christoph Stiefel Trio in Cairo Jazz Festival

Cairo saw the 13th edition of Cairo Jazz Festival in November 2021, with concerts and performances, workshops and discussions. This year rich and diverse programme featured 95 artists and 20 bands from 13 countries.
Pro Helvetia Cairo was particularly excited to support the participation of the Swiss Christoph Stiefel Trio “Inner Language”, with a concert that took place on Tuesday November 2 at Tahrir Cultural Center, as well as a masterclass by Christoph Stiefel.
The Inner Language Trio develops its unique sound by bringing together influences from jazz, classical music as well as a compositional technique from the Middle Ages called «isorhythm». Their act balances between precise conceptual work and unleashed improvisation that keeps the excited audience holding their breath as the music oscillates between intensive grooves and tonal color painting in a fascinating manner.
Stiefel explained to us how himself and his trio develop their music:
Stiefel has been an active musician since the 1980s but in the last 15 years has turned intensively to jazz piano music and composition. He boasts a portfolio of over 20 albums released worldwide.
